Finally Finished

It's official. My kitchen is finally finished. I'm pretty sure that when we began this long journey 7 months and 19 days ago, I never thought it would take this long. I absolutely love the end result and would definitely say it was worth it. I'm not sure Travis would say the same, but he did a great job. All I have left to do is a little decorating. The walls are bare, but I'm sure in time I'll find something to fill them up with! That just means more shopping for me!

This is my final post on the kitchen. Not to worry, though. We have many other home improvement projects that are patiently waiting on us. I'll keep you posted!

Curtains and Grout

This weekend Travis finished grouting the tile and did a couple of paint touch-ups. I finally found some curtains for the back door. I usually like to make my own curtains because it is usually cheaper, but this time I couldn't find any fabric that was just the right color. Then I ran across these at BB&B. Acutally, Travis picked them out. The color is perfect.

Now I'm working on making a roman shade for over the sink. In the process, I found a new use for the peninsula... craft station!!! It is the perfect height for standing, scratch resistant and cleans up well. Now I don't have to stoop over the table and worry about scratching it!!!

Finally a Backsplash

The backsplash is up. It's not grouted yet. We still have a little painting to do, some trim at the top and the kick plates under the sink cabinets. There will also be pendant lights over the peninsula! We're getting so close!

The dining room isn't much different other than the floor, paint color and a new rug. We will be ordering new chairs and curtains for the back door soon. Still looking for something for the wall!

Update

Here's the small, much-needed update that you all have been begging for. Really, things are not moving along very quickly because the next thing to do is pick out my tile for my backsplash. We initially got several samples of red tiles in and decided that we wanted to go with something more neutral. These are the two most recent samples. The one on the right is winning my vote. It is clear glass with green/brown streaks through it. I think it will give a fresh, airy look to the kitchen. Let me know what you think!

This is my faucet. I love it! The nozzle comes off and is a sprayer! After 3 years without a sprayer, I'm loving it!

This is a pic of my new area rug that goes under my table. It is dark brown with greens, caramels and blue-grays! It is a large pattern...the little black thing at the top of the pic is my table leg.

We still need to pick out pendant lights for over the counter and some of the soffit is still not covered. I'm continually shopping for accessories/curtains/etc. to get it all finished. It would totally help if we weren't such picky people! We have picked out our chairs!!! That was quite a chore, but have settled on something that we think we will both love.

I heart CaesarStone!

Our "Blizzard" white CaesarStone counters were installed today! It is really looking like a kitchen now! My new stainless dishwasher was delivered today and my microwave will be in in a couple of weeks.

This is our super-deep stainless undermount sink! I heart my sink too! I'm still in the market for a faucet if anyone knows where I can find a semi-modern one hole faucet with sprayer for a good price!

How 'bout an update...

Well, here's where we are... Nearly all the cabinets are in. (There's stuff in there too!!!) The countertops will be here on June 4 which is when the sink, faucet and dishwaser will be hooked up! I still have the old white dishwasher for now (because we are a little over budget and will have to wait to get it), but I'm fine with that! The countertops are Caesarstone and will be mostly white. We're still thinking about the backsplash, but red mosiac still tops the list! Once the big things are all done, I get to shop for accessories! That will be the fun part!

Week 7- What the plumbing?

That's right, there's plumbing in there! I would have never guessed that would be the case. I thought soffits were purely decorative! This was a huge problem since our cabinets go to the ceiling! Fortunately for us we need storage in our laundry room... so you guessed it, the tall cabinets are going in there and we're ordering new cabinets for under the blasted soffit! It's not really a big deal since we have to place an order for the stuff that Ikea didn't get us/got wrong on our initial trip up there. Don't you worry, we're still going to get our soffit-less look. My handy hubby has a plan. Keep reading and you'll see in the weeks to come!

Home improvement never goes smoothly when you aren't really experienced! We have found that out time and time again. For us, it's the only way we could afford this, so even though we get frustrated, we just have to smile and move on!
